XPeng Motors, Volkswagen China Collaborate to Upgrade Super Fast Charging Network
On January 6th, XPeng Motors and Volkswagen Group (China) announced that they have reached a strategic cooperation in the field of super fast charging networks and signed a memorandum of understanding. Both parties will open up their proprietary super fast charging networks to each other. Customers of XPeng Motors and Volkswagen Group (China) will have access to a super fast charging network with over 20,000 charging terminals, covering 420 cities in China. The two companies will also explore the joint construction of co-branded super fast charging stations to accelerate the construction of the charging network.
According to previous reports, in July last year, XPeng Motors and Volkswagen Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement for the joint development of electronic and electrical architecture technology, committing to develop industry-leading electronic and electrical architecture for Volkswagen's CMP and MEB platforms produced in China.
On February 29th of the same year, XPeng Motors announced the signing of a strategic technology cooperation joint development agreement and a joint procurement plan with Volkswagen Group. The signing of the joint development agreement not only accelerated the joint research and development of two B-class pure electric vehicles but also laid a solid foundation for broader and deeper strategic cooperation between the two parties.
Following the announcements on July 26, 2023, and December 6, 2023, regarding Volkswagen's acquisition of a 4.99% stake in XPeng Motors and the strategic technology cooperation framework agreement, XPeng Motors and Volkswagen Group signed a platform and software strategic technology cooperation joint development agreement, marking a milestone in their strategic cooperation.
At the beginning of last year, Volkswagen Group (China) announced that the new Volkswagen brand model co-developed with XPeng would start production in Hefei in 2026.
