US New Car Sales Reached 15.9 Million Units Last Year, a 2.2% Increase YoY, Setting a 5-Year High
Reuters, citing data from analysis company Wards Intelligence, reported that in 2024 (last year), US new car sales reached 15.9 million units, marking a 2.2% increase year-over-year and setting a 5-year high. General Motors was the top-selling automaker in the US last year, selling 2.7 million units, which is a 4.3% increase year-over-year. Additionally, Toyota's sales in the US grew by 3.7%, and Ford's sales increased by 4.2%.
Last year, most automakers achieved solid sales performance in the US. The electric vehicle sales in the US are expected to approach 1.3 million units, accounting for about 8% of all new car sales. The willingness of consumers to buy electric vehicles has slightly increased since the year before (2023), when US users purchased 1.2 million electric vehicles, which accounted for 7.6% of total sales.
Referring to Tesla's global production and delivery report released on the evening of January 2, 2024, the data shows that in the fourth quarter of 2024, Tesla's global car deliveries exceeded 495,000 units, with production volume being approximately 459,000 units.
Overall, Tesla's global deliveries for the full year of 2024 were about 1.789 million units, slightly lower than in 2023 (1.809 million units), with a total production of new cars around 1.773 million units, also less than in 2023 (1.846 million units). It is noteworthy that Tesla's annual delivery volume experienced a decline for the first time in over 10 years.
